Life Questions

"You're not 40, you're 18 with 22 years of experience."

So my 40th birthday is coming up in December and I am not sure what to think about it. I had no problems with my 30th, but the thought of being 40 is bringing a few "life" questions to mind. Have I accomplished enough? Have I made the "positive difference" in the world that I have always wanted to do? Will I ever have more children (Godwilling)? Am I living up to my full potential? The list goes on. It is a point in my life to reevaluate and start making the changes that need to be made and to truly be the best person I can be.
At what point in your life have you taken stock of your accomplishments?

Have a great weekend!

  1. You have a beautiful child, you're happy and married, I'd say you're living to potential :)

Ya know what's funny, they say men freak about 30, but women freak out about 40. I guess it's true!

  2. Those are great questions to ask yourself. We should all be asking those things no matter the age I suppose.

    Thank you for sharing!

  3. Good thoughts. And you don't need to worry about 40. I think turning 40 gives one freedom to be yourself and know not to sweat the small stuff. So much that we worried about as teens or 20's or 30's really doesn't matter. Our relationships with God, with our children, and other people are what matter, aren't they. I think that those are the 'accomplishments' that are most significant.

  8. Hmmm, I started taking stock after my youngest was born. Kinda of depressing think of coulda shoulda woulda, so I am inspired to bring my dreams to light by being more realistic with the situations I am in.

  10. 1) Happy Early Birthday!!
    2) 40 is the new 30, and you look fabulous!
    3) I think it's normal for everyone to question living up to their own expectations. The only thing we can ever really expect out of life is that it will continually surprise us by taking us down paths we never thought we'd go.

Have a great day and a wonderful birthday!

  11. You reevaluate your accomplishments in life every week when you reflect on the things for which you are thankful: Little Chick and your family, bringing people together, cherished memories, etc. My Hubs and I reflect on our relationship on our anniversary (which is in December, too, and close to the new year). In order to answer your own questions, though, perhaps you should keep a notebook like your father did and write down goals that are important to you. That way you have a physical reminder of what you'd like to accomplish and steps you can take to make them happen. Forty is not bad. I'd have to agree with Cranberry Morning on that! With 40 comes freedom. My mom's neighbor had her first child at 40, so another child is not out of the question for you either. Here's to you and Little Chick's improving health.

  12. I feel like evaluating your life is an ongoing event no matter what age. It just has so much more meaning for you now because you have so much more to look back on then ever before. You're family for example, is probably one of your most special accomplishments. If I had someone like little chick, I would be very proud. Besides that your one of the most inspiring bloggers and people I know. You are a good role model for so many. Though I don't know what you were like years ago, it seems to me like you've reached for the best and succeeded.

  13. I think that you should be proud of everything you have accomplished even if they are not the things you expected to do or didn't all happen the way you wanted. I think that you have a lot to be proud of, and that you look awesome for being almost 40. I have a December birthday too mine is the 19th what is yours? I hope little chick is feeling better, and that you both have a wonderful night!

  15. You don't look a day over 22! I take stock of my accomplishments about every other day so it's always on my mind. It appears with all your travels, your influence as a teacher, Little Chick and the love of/for your family you have done a great deal over the past 40 years. That said it doesn't matter what we all think, it's what you feel that matters.
Let us know when your actual b-day is, okay!

  17. My 36th is coming up and I've been thinking some of the same things. I freaked out a little at 25, not at all at 30, and 35 was a little scary. If I look like you at 40, it will be smooth sailing! :-)

  18. Goodness me, I remember thinking 40 was so old, but now I know it is so young. Just forget age,it is just numbers and we can do nothing about it. Make the most of the years we are blessed with each and every birthday :)

  19. I try to live my life remembering that I'm never going to be any younger than I am today. I'm sure when you are in your 60's you'll look back at photos of your 40's and think that you were so young. Every year is a blessing, and every day a gift. I haven't really measured up my accomplishments...my goal on this earth is to be the best possible person I can be, to honor my God, and to set a good example for my children. I'm doing it daily. The biggest impact I will have on this earth will be through them. Love to you Mama Hen - may the 40's be your best years yet!
