Our Kindness Jar

"One of the most important gifts we can pass on to our children is the ability to show kindness to others." ~Mama Hen
Little Chick and I have started a new tradition - our kindness jar. Whenever we find one another doing an act of kindness we write it down with the date and put it in the jar. Little Chick chose the pumpkins as her special kindness card, I have the heart and Grandma Hen and others write their kind act on a star. We are excited to fill our jar to the rim with kindness! The other day while writing in her journal, Little Chick wrote about the children who are less fortunate. She prays for them every night and has been talking about "giving me as a gift to them when she gets older so that they can can have food, love and learn to read with mommy." What a giving heart Little Chick has and it is so incredibly full of kindness. Her little elf on the shelf notices these acts of kindness and leaves her a note every day. We find her in some fun places. Our Thanksgiving was enjoyable and we are thankful for our many abundant blessings and all the love we have.

Thanksgiving Thursday: 1.) Little Chick and my family 2.) Showing kindness to others and seeing Little Chick's compassionate heart. 3.) Gathering family and friends for the holiday. 4.) My beautiful mom who is always there for us. 5.) Everything that comes with Christmas!

Meet Mistletoe

"There is so much love within us all to go around. When given the opportunity, open your heart and pour the love." ~Mama Hen
Meet Little Chick's new kitten, Mistletoe! I was planning on getting one more kitty to join our family, but I did not know we would get one so soon. After lunch yesterday we went to the Humane Society to give some love to the animals there and guess who we saw? This little kitty was pawing at the glass towards Little Chick. I knew right then that this was our kitten. Little Chick is so happy!

Snowmen, Frogs, Trees & of Course Horses

"Never let the opportunity to say thank you slip by. Just saying the two words is like spreading a contagous smile. And who doesn't need a world filled with smiles!" ~Mama Hen
Little Chick and I had so much fun in the snow the other day! We could not wait for the first snow so we could go sledding and make a snowman! Little Chick is so excited that she got two new pets! They are African Dwarf Frogs. She named them Funny Bunny and Blueberry. And I was so happy when the over 100 foot tree that was leaning towards my house finally was taken down by the amazing guys in the picture. One climbed up to the top of the tree quite a few times to secure the ropes they were using to pull the tree away from house. I feel so incredibly blessed that Hurricane Sandy did not finally knock the tree down. It would have destroyed my entire house and I stayed up the entire night of the storm watching it sway back and forth over my house. Thank You Dear Lord! And finally, Little Chick was so excited to take my dear friend, Geri, to her favorite place - the horse farm! She introduced her to all of her buddies. There is so much to be thankful for!
My heroes!
Thanksgiving Thursday: 1.) Little Chick and my family 2.) The first snow and making snowmen. 3.) The overflowing love Little Chick has for life and everyone in it! I learn so much from her every day. 4.) Great friends and ever supporting family. 5.) Animals and all the love they give.

Thanksgiving Thursday

"Give thanks each and every day. Never lose sight that each moment is a blessing and each day the grandest of gifts." ~Mama Hen
Little Chick is a gift to all of God's living creatures. She spends at least two hours a day feeding hay and treats to the horses at the farm where she rides. Recently three malnourished neglected horses were brought to the farm and Little Chick has made it her mission to love them back to health. We went to our local apple orchard and picked up a huge crate of apples so we can bring treats to them every day. I love watching my daughter take care of these horses and if it weren't for dinner time she would never leave them. There is one horse in particular that tugs at my heart. He is very skinny and we make sure to give him as much hay and treats as possible. Grandma Hen came with us to the farm the other day to meet all of Little Chick's buddies. We had so much fun today with our first snow for the season! Of course we went sledding and topped it off with some hot cocoa! There is so much to be thankful for! Thank you Dear Lord!

Trick or Treating Fun

"Oh the joy of celebrating the holidays! It is not the specific day or time the event takes place that fills one's soul with utmost happiness, but the anticipation and people you share it with that creates a moment always cherished." ~Mama Hen
Little Chick and the rest of Connecticut and surrounding states were sad when Halloween was either canceled or postponed to another day. It has been quite a week of trying to stay warm and rejoicing when power and heat was finally restored. But for some (like my sister and her family) the power won't be regained for many more days. It has been a difficult time for everyone and between it all the children lost out on one of their favorite holidays - Halloween! So today was the day in a neighboring town that the children could celebrate and we had so much fun going from house to house with family and friends! After trick or treating we headed to a cozy little Italian restaurant for dinner and wonderful family time.

Giving Thanks

"Cherish each moment and fill them with a whole lot of love and sweetness! Life goes by in a flash, so the faster we realize what is truly important, the quicker we can truly enjoy." ~Mama Hen
It has been quite a week with no power and a hurricane we will never forget! I held on to Little Chick tightly as we listened to the wind whistle and hurl branches about. I had much damage in my backyard, but I am so incredibly grateful for no trees landing on my house. I watched one massive tree swing back and forth over my house. I am so thankful it did not fall as the other huge trees in our yard did. Little Chick went right away to check on her horse buddies. She made sure to bring a big bag of cut apples to share with all of them. She has been visiting every day to make them smile. She also attended a Halloween party at the farm before the hurricane. Yesterday Little Chick got to help the Farrier put new horse shoes on a horse. She was so excited! There is so much to be thankful for! Thank You dear God for your ever abundant blessings!

Getting ready for the hurricane.
Power went out very early.
