Remembering 9/11

"Life is so fragile.
Be thankful for each day.
It is an absolute blessing."
~Mama Hen
Where were you on 9/11? I can remember that day so vividly, as I know we all can. I had been teaching my fourth grade class when an early dismissal was called. I got my students ready and heard that there had been a plane crash in New York and that was it. I couldn't breathe, because my husband (boyfriend at the time) had just left that morning on a business trip. Waiting for all the students to be picked up seemed like an eternity. I wanted to know if he was alright. When I left work I listened to the radio, but did not get any details that would let me know what flight it had been. I tried to call his factory and was told that he had not arrived yet. I got scared and panicked! When I reached home I instantly turned on the television to see what had happened. It was overwhelming, devastating and surreal at the same time. Disbelief came to mind, yet the reality had me in tears. Time seemed to move so slowly while waiting to see if my husband was OK. I called his factory again and still they had not heard from him. I called his phone and it went to voice mail. The waiting was painful. Then the phone rang. I picked it up and heard his voice. Tears poured from my eyes. Tears of relief, tears from devastation, tears for the people who had lost their lives so tragically and tears for the loved ones they had left behind.

Let us remember and pray for the people who died so tragically and their loved ones.

  1. Amen! I was in front of my high school English class when it happened! We watched the towers fall, and I had to remind them that what we were watching was NOT a movie but REAL! Over the next few days, the skies out here were so eerily beautiful with no plane clouds crossing paths in the sky. Indiana is the Crossroads of America, and most travelers do cross our skies going east and west. God Bless all those who lost loved ones.

  2. How scary! It was a devastating day, and still is 9 years later. My heart goes out to all the families who lost a loved one on this tragic day 9 years ago.

  3. I was getting ready to go to class when I heard on the radio that we had been "bombed," I turned the TV on to see what had happened, and I remember standing there in disbelief. Just shocked! Those images will be with me forever, and it seems like it was yesterday. I can't believe it has been 9 years.

  4. I too will never forget where I was. My sister was on a flight that morning and words cannot express how thankful I was to learn she was okay. It is so sad to think of all the lives lost and equally as sad to think of all the families affected but such ignorance.
So glad your boyfriend (husband) was okay!

  7. Although I was far away at the other side of the world (Malaysia), we watched it on the news and was really heartbreaking. Such a tragedy for it to happen and praying for the peace and comfort to the people who are affected.

  10. The impact was felt all over the world. I still vividly remember where I was when the news came out that it had happened. I can't believe that nine years have gone by already. Much has changed in the world since then, but sadly much still hasn't. x

  11. Yes, I can remember the moment vividly too, and at the time, I had a boyfriend and best girlfriend living in New York. Everytime I tried calling their cell phones, there was nothing--not even a ring--nothing. It was such a horribly tragic moment--I had friends here in CT that commute to NY everyday, and they couldn't even get home to see their loved ones because the railroads were shut down. Would there be another attack? We just didn't know. I know of at least five people who lost someone in the Twin Towers--my heart will always go out to them...They never got closure.

  12. I was teaching that day, too, fifth grade and I had no idea what was going on until a parent came and knocked on my classroom door to get her child because "what happened at the Pentagon" (I was teaching in Rockville, MD about 20 north of D.C.). I couldn't believe what was going on, it all still seems so surreal....

  13. I remember it clearly. And I hope that we all remember that unless we are willing to protect our freedom, we will lose it. Vote in your Primary election; vote in November. I think that's the best way we can remember those who died on that day. Pray and vote.

  14. I remember that day like it was yesterday. I was in my dorm room in CA sleeping when my roommate came in and woke us all up to come to the tv. We spent all day watching the news. My mom, who was on vacation in Mexico, got stuck there for an extra week because the US shut down all the borders. My heart goes out to those who lost a loved one on that day...

  15. I will never forget that day either! I was in my dorm room sleeping also, and when I was woken up and told to come watch the t.v I didn't believe what I was seeing at first. Then it hit me that it wasn't a movie that it was real. I was shocked and devastated. My husband but then boyfriend was in school to be a fireman and seeing this made that so scary all of a sudden. My thoughts and prayers are with all the people who lost loved ones that day.

  20. Very cute blog! I had joined Nestwork and you commented my blog welcoming me, which was very kind! However, I decided to un-follow because I didn't want to put the button my side-bar (even though it is very cute) and I know that's required and I don't expect you to make an exeption just for me! Also I didn't want the daily posts to clog up my reading feed since I don't check it daily. You won't hurt my feelings if you need to un-follow me too. Promise! Sorry for being so wishy-washy! :/

  22. My husband was in NY just a couple weeks before 9/11 in a building next to the towers. I remember thinking of all the loved ones who knew someone there that day and how that must feel. My heart goes out to all those who lost someone dear on that day.

I have enjoyed checking out your blog. Thank you for visiting my blog and following! I appreciate it!

  23. This day 9 years ago was indeed a tragic day. I remember where I was, too... I'm working on a post about it now. I live in Upstate NY, and one thing that sticks out in my mind about that time (besides the TV images and whatnot) is that the very next day, September 12, is my parents anniversary; however, because of my father's business with NYC (though he was not down there at the time of the attack), they never did get to celebrate that year. Every year around this time, I also think about all the amazing stories of survival, though some of the survivers lost family members. I think that we should keep not only the families in our prayes, but also this nation.

    God bless.

  24. I was at my job working in a museum. We were closed, but I was there because we had a big event that weekend and I needed to be there in case people called for tickets. After the plans hit, they were sending everyone home, but I knew my roommate wasn't there, so I just stayed and sit and hit refresh on cnn's site. I called my best friend who I had argued with and hadn't talked to in over a year to see if her family was okay because she had moved from NY. I still pray for the families of those lost, because I can't even begin to imagine their devastation.

  25. Mama Hen-I left a lengthy comment on Kirsten's Sunny Side of Life blog. If you'd like copy and paste this link: http://alwaysfindthesunnyside.blogspot.com/2010/09/day-189365-where-were-you-when-world.html
I was at work. I was incredulous. It took a while for the gravity of the situation to sink in, and then I cried. Turns out I was crying for you as you awaited word from Papa Rooster. As tragic as this day was, it really put the unity in the United States of America.

  26. I can't believe nine years have passed since I heard the announcement on the loud speaker my first week of highschool in the ninth grade. I didn't understand what had happened, but when my mother picked me up and I watched the news, I couldn't stop crying all week. I still cry when I watch the videos to this day. We should never forget and I only have the best wishes for those families who have suffered so much loss.

  27. That day left such a footprint in all of our lives, but in it's mold left a sense of community and patriotism that I hope we pass on to our children. I don't think there is a single person who doesn't remember where they were or what they were doing that day....I hope our children never experience anything like the devastation of that day.

  29. I'm so glad your husband was okay. My Grat Aunt and Great Uncle where both at work that morning in separate towers. She was a floor below where the first plan crashed and he was in the tower that got hit second. They both made it out alive and I'm so THANKFUL that they did but feel so bad for everyone who wasn't as fortunate. Thanks for sharing Mama Hen. We will never ever forget that day.
