Thanksgiving Thursday

"Give thanks when you have the least energy. It will lift your spirit."
~Mama Hen

I have not been feeling well lately and I think it is the best time to really take a good look at what I am thankful for. The daily blessings keep coming and I need to stay focused on that. It is easy to give thanks when you feel great! But when you don't feel well and chronic pain and exhaustion are thrown into the mix, that is when giving thanks is essential. Here are my five for this week:

1.) Little Chick and my family.
2.) For truly caring people who take the time to "be there" in both the good times and the bad.
3.) Little Chick's "I love yous" are the sweetest words I have ever heard.
4.) For the singing birds when we wake up and the sound of the crickets when we go to sleep.
5.) I am so grateful to my parents for instilling in my sister and myself how important education is and for inspiring us to reach for the stars.

  1. Wow, I just read your earlier post and then your thankful one. I'm so glad you have someone who inspires you (though I think that came full circle). Please feel better soon and thank you for inspiring us!!!!

  2. You are so right. It really does lift our spirits when we focus on all we have to be thankful for, rather than the negative. I enjoyed your list.

  4. I think I'm going hold off on Thanksgiving Thursday this week because I'll be at work (subbing at the Parent's Day Out where I used to work). I, too, am thankful that my 12-yr-old "baby" still asks me to tuck her in at night. I am thankful for cool breezes in my face as I ride downhill on my bike. I am thankful to see another birthday!

  5. Mama Hen, I can always count on you to inspire me. I, too, am so thankful for the same reasons--I especially enjoyed number four and five. Education is so important, and yet, I think a lot of us take it for granted...Thank you for your lovely post about my Aunty Sarah. You really do know how to lift people's spirits when they are down. Happy Thanksgiving Thursday!

  6. I am so thankful this week for your weekly thanks list. Number 5 was particularly true for me this week. I'm so thankful to have my education degree and to have taken child development - even if I haven't used it in the traditional sense in a while. Have a great day!

  7. I am so sorry you haven't been feeling well! Hoepfully something will shift and your pain will fly away. Funny that you are thankful for crickets. Living in the desert we have way too many and can't stand them (they keep us up at night). One chicks blessings are another chicks curse. Have a great day Mama

  8. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST QUOTES YOU'VE EVER DONE, MAMA HEN! How right you are! I absolutely love all of your quotes and look forward to them every day.

And all of the "thankfuls" on your list were wonderful, but particularly precious was the descriptions of birds and crickets - I could picture it immediately and it brought on warm memories.

  10. I'm so sorry you haven't been feeling well...it's a challenge to do things but great you have thanks to give! Great list, esp. being able to hear LC's "I love you's". What a nice reminder! I hope you get some rest and more fluids! Thanks for your comments on my blog, I'm glad you enjoyed the brownies :) I also have been resisting sickness that comes upon a tired body.

I'm joining in Thanksgiving Thursday, and gave you 2 awards! Come and get them when you're feeling up to it :) Hope you have a restful, healing day.

  11. You are so inspiring. It's like a breath of fresh air to come to your blog every day. You are so right. When we're feeling down or aren't feeling well the best thing to do is spend some time appreciating what we have. Sometimes it is the small things like the crickets at night that go unappreciated. I love listening to the crickets at night, too. Sometimes my girls tell me that I'm the best mommy ever and that always lifts my spirits! Happy Thursday, feel better soon.
