Passing Kindness on to Others

"Doing kind acts for others not only brightens their day,
but yours as well." ~Mama Hen

Anyone that knows me knows that I love my delicious hot cup of coffee each day. When Little Chick is at school I make sure to grab myself one at the local bakery and get my day started off right. This morning I was pleasantly surprised when a lady I had started talking with while preparing my yummy cup of java paid for my coffee and bagel and told me to have a great day. I was so happy. This gesture really made my day! I told her I would definitely pay it forward. It is so easy to brighten up someone elses day. Surprises such as these are inspiring to pass on kindness to others. Now I am thinking about all the ways I can pay it forward today and every day. How do you brighten up someone elses day?

  1. What a beautiful, beautiful post! Thanks so much for sharing this. It made me happy this morning. I, also, wanted to say thank you for stopping by to see me and for all of your encouraging comments. I am not in your Nestwork but I will definitely add my blog to it. Thank you for the invitation! Have a great weekend, Candace

  2. Wow. How very kind of her!
I'm not a morning person, in the least, and like you I must have my coffee first thing.
My boys have to be at school pretty early (we leave the house at 7:30). There is usually a line of cars trying to turn left into the school while I'm turning right and I'm sometimes guilty of being so sleepy and grumpy that I don't stop and let one of them in but on the mornings I do, like this morning, it always makes me feel so much better about myself.
Nice reminder, Mama Hen. Have a great day! :)

  5. Ahhh....that gave me a big 'ol smile today. Imagine if we all paid it forward. What a world this would be. (It's a small thing but I try and smile at everyone. Surprises a lot of people.)

  7. That is such a kind gesture! This morning Caroline was so sad and having such a hard time and her little sister was so helpful. She wrote a note to Caroline's teacher about why she was so sad to try to help her. So touching!

  8. Momma Hen, I know that we get blessed by being a blessing. I've never had much; with four children, most times things are kind of tight, but I've always sacrificed when I thought someone needed my money more than I did, at the time. Not bragging by any means, but I remember driving by a woman and small child one day at the bus stop. I used to ride the bus myself for many years. Anyway, it was dark and I was concerned, so I stopped and asked her how far she was going? She said a shelter, a few major streets from where I lived. I told her to get in with her baby. We talked and before I knew it, we were at her destination and I took the money order that I had purchased ($50) for a bill and put her name on it. I have never thought about that gesture until I just read your post. I've done other random things like pay for a guys groceries ($38) because his card was declined. Like I said, I don't have much, but what I do have, I have always shared when I was led to. Thanks for reminding me that God has taken good care of me, because I truly believe, "I am my brothers/sisters keeper". Have a GREAT day.

  9. That was so sweet of her to brighten your day that way! I can't really think of a specific incident, but I like doing little things like helping an elderly person by taking their shopping cart when they're done, so they don't have to return it to the store. Little things like that.....with a smile, of course! :)

  10. That is so sweet. She's so kind! I remember one day when I was riding a public vehicle. One of the passengers who happens to be an old lady doesn't have enough money to pay for her fare. I grab my purse inside my bag and offered to pay for her. She's very thankful and keep on thanking me until I went down the car. It lightens my day and I am very happy that time. I made someone happy too with just a small amount of penny.

I am thinking of good ways on how to share happiness to others. I'll start a simple list now. This is awesome. Thanks for sharing this wonderful story. It made my day. Have a great weekend with your lovely Little Chick.

  12. What a nice thing she did for you! Just yesterday I received a card in the mail (like U.S. postal, not e-mail!) in which an acquaintance thanked me for my hospitality and said such nice things. I don't remember being so nice or paying her to say so, but it really made my day! :-)

You have a great weekend too!

  20. How awesome is that!?!? This week I've been making an effort to smile more at kind looking strangers and letting people cut in line at target. Not as cool as your example but you know... BTW: I can do the article next week. Any particular day you need it? Super excited!!

  21. Doesn't that just absolutely MAKE your day?! I've done that a time or two at Starbucks to people behind me in line.. I like to make people feel good, and I think that can help. You never know how someone's morning went, and that can totally turn it around for them. :)

  22. Awesome! Once in the Starbucks drive thru I had someone buy my coffee...and I'm still kicking myself for not paying it forward that day. Maybe I still should? I just remembered that you are looking for guest features. Let me know if you still have a need - I'd be honored :)
