My Favorite Pair of Pants

"Change is gradual, but in order to see results, you have to start somewhere."
~Mama Hen
OK it is absolutely time to set the game plan about the excess fat that I have around my, well, lets say, everywhere! There I said it! Now what am I going to do about it? I am setting my goals for each week as I start this journey to get back to the fabulous me that I felt comfortable with. I want to be able to wear the clothes I have saved hanging in my closet the past couple of years. I have some pants that are beckoning me to wear them again. My favorite pair may be a bit outdated, but they are my favorites and I have made fitting into them my goal. You can see them in the picture to the left. That was taken about six years ago. They are a size 4 and so help me I will fit into them again.
So here is the starting plan:
1.) I will drink 5 (8oz.) glasses of water a day. I know it should be 8 glasses, but I want to start with something reasonable and anything over would be a bonus. Ha!
2.) I will start powerwalking (my knees are bad and I can't run any more) 30 minutes a day for five days a week. I will also use free weights 3 times a week.
3.) No more late night snacks. That is where it all began to expand my waist! Snacks will be veggies or fruit.
That is a good start, because I have not done these in a very long time. By starting with reasonable goals I think I will be able to get the motivation to stick.
Anyone up for taking on any of these goals with me? Let me know so we can support one another!

  2. I have taken on the goal to shed my extra weight too! I will join you on this goal! I have been doing Jillian Michael's 30 day shred video and I am currently on week 4. I have really enjoyed it, it kicks some serious butt but it is only 20 minutes long! I think that you have set really great goals for yourself. I am going to have to work on drinking more water. I hope you have a wonderful night!

  5. Oh, Mama Hen, I'm feeling a little guilty. I was all with you until I saw goal #3 about the late night snack thing. Late night is when I do my best snacking (usually a dip of ice cream) although I know it's not good for me. I'm going to give it a go with you, though. We can keep each other accountable.

  6. Even though I think you're gorgeous and look great right now, I wish you luck! I only wear flared or boot cut jeans, so I don't think they are outdated at all! Sounds like you have a well thought out plan of attack, and it will work great.

I have a good friend who lost a ton of weight using kettle bell workouts, they seem to be highly effective, so maybe you could look into that.

And can I just say that you & your husband make a beautiful couple, and look absolutely adorable together!

  7. Wow, I hope you'll use my blog as support??! Let me know if there's something special you request I blog about...I'd be MORE than happy to help. Wow, you look great in that pic and a size 4? HOLY COW! I have a degree in health and I'll NEVER be a size 4, even if I locked all of the kitchen cabinets! Ha!! Good Luck on your journey!

  8. These are great goals! It sounds like you've done these before, so you'll do it again! You look great in that picture! I'm with you actively on #3, recently eating a fruit instead of occasional ice cream.

  9. Oh, one more thing. I love your quote, "Change is gradual, but in order to see results, you have to start somewhere." It's so true! And what better motivation than wanting to fit into your favorite pair of pants again! You can do it!

  10. Good luck with your goal! I did something similar after the birth of my daughter. I didn't allow myself to buy anymore new clothes, walked instead of drive a lot of times, drank more water, and cooked healthier. I was able to fit my favorite jeans again in about 3 months.

The big thing that hurt me was eating too late, and soda. Once I stopped doing both, my goal was easier to accomplish. I wish you the best of luck!!! Since your little chickie is quite the dancer, maybe you two can have calorie-busting dance sessions. I did that, too, with my little ones. Though they just laugh at me.

  13. Good Luck! Late night snacks are tough because they are more of a habit than a hungry thing but you can do it!

  14. Good luck! I've been thinking about this too for a little bit - and keep thinking I'll start "next week". Maybe I actually WILL start next week :)

Hope it goes well for you!

  15. I'm so with you on the water thing! I don't drink nearly enough! I too have my favorite skinny jeans, sitting in the closet. I'm scared to try them on...maybe I should. It might motivate me to get 100% on board with you!

  16. Awesome! You look great in that photo and I think it's such a motivator that you kept those jeans, now they are your 'goal' jeans, awesome! I'm definitely on board with the 'water' goal, 5 is reasonable for now and I think I need to cut back on my late night snacks too. Good luck on your goal!

  17. The water drinking is a great aid to health and really does help with the weight. American sizes mean nothing to me but good luck with your goal.

  19. Thanks for following - I'm now following back!
I will join you in this as I am working on getting rid of my baby weight...he is almost 3 months old and I need to get busy! Good luck!

  20. Good luck to you! I blame my extra 10 lbs on my inability to throw food away. My kids leave a bite here and a bite there. Those bites are now all on my thighs!

I should take note from my kids and stop eating when I'm full...even if there only is one bite left.

  21. OK sweetie....I'll join you. There...now I said it!! I won't be mentioning any numbers, only my satisfaction level. And good for you for your courage to put it out there. Here's to getting healthy!

As to your comment today - I have the Nikon D300 with a couple of lenses. My fav is the 500mm prime fixed 1:4. I went from my little Sony cybershot to this which was a huge leap (but that's the kind of person I am.....a bit nuts). Nikon and Canon have some great SLR's very reasonably priced too, starting around $500. But I so know what you mean about a camera being quick enough to capture all those moments. That's why I went for it - and I love it!

And btw......I too had a German grandma. Something else we share.
    :)

Have a great (and healthy) day!!
    xoxo

  22. I definitly think you can accomplish that! Those are simple goals that also affect health and lifestyle! I notice what really helps is preparing the snacks ahead of time, that way you'll actually grab the frozen grapes when your hungry and not the caramel-popcorn! The walking is also really good for you! I've worked with my father since I was a lil tyke just poking my head over the show-cases and one thing that has always been there were the elderly people that came to power-walk in the early morning. They are all so thin and in shape for their age! My dad always told me its the key to staying fit, power-walking.

Stay strong! you'll prevail over those annoying fat cells! ;-)

  23. You can do it!! Espeically once you get past that first week. It will become more of a lifestyle change. Then once you get down where you want to, you can cheat some. Everything in moderation :) I'm rooting for you!

  24. I wish you all the best! Why does it seem it's so easy to gain, but so hard to lose? LOL I have some I need to lose as well! My second child really changed me! Have a great weekend!
    Blessings,
    Jill

  25. Great goals! A recent study came out stating that if you drink 2 glasses of water before each meal you'll eat less/loss weight. Best of luck - you can do it!

  26. Augh!!!! I SHOULD join you... but if I do - I must do it in secret - because I hate being accountable! ;)

Actually - your list of 3 seems do-able (especially #3 - that is always my downfall! I think I need to go to sleep at 5PM to avoid that one - but then again, when would I blog???)

Thanks for the motivation!! You are the best!
