If I Could Save A Life

"Awareness and knowledge are crucial to making changes."
~Mama Hen

I believe that awareness and knowledge are an essential part of making changes and preventing things that we would not want. Our dog, Pudding, died horrifically and I have been haunted by the way his life had to end. I realized today that perhaps the way he died was for a greater purpose. I had not planned on sharing this very sad story, however, if I could save a life then it is crucial that this story be told. I had my mom take Pudding because we were going to go away for a few days. When she let him outside for the last time before going to bed he was viciously attacked by two coyotes right by my mother's deck. She ran outside and tried to ward them off by screaming and swatting a broom, but they did not want to leave. She saw Pudding shaking under a bush and knew she had to get him. As she waved the broom and leaned over to Pudding a deer had run by and a third coyote ran past chasing it. She quickly was able to grab the dog and saw that he was completely torn open. (She was bitten and has been going through the extensive rabies shots at the hospital since.) She immediately drove to the emergency veterinarian which was 25 minutes away. She tried to call me, but I did not hear the phone after midnight. My dog stayed alive waiting for me. There was nothing that could be done because he had hardly anything left to his 6 pound body. My mom stayed close to him as they put him to sleep. I have been sick over this! That night there had been four other domestic animals that had died in the very same emergency vet from being attacked by coyotes. When we reported it to the police the next day and to the DEP we were told that there was no other report that day. However, they knew that these attacks had been going on and people simply are not reporting them. I am writing this post, as difficult a task as it is to do, to make everyone aware that this is happening in many parts of the U.S. and that children have been attacked too in their own yards. It is so important to make sure that being aware of the dangers we eliminate the risks. If it had been my daughter and I walking on the walkway to my mother's deck what could have happened? Coyotes are showing more and more that they do not fear humans. I write this post with all my heart to create awareness and to make sure my sweet little dog of thirteen years did not die in vain.

We love and miss you Pudding!

  5. Poor Pudding! We have coyotes here too but people feed them and so there is not a lot the community can do if people are providing meals. So sorry to hear about this - hope your message protects at least one family.

  8. Oh Mama Hen, I am in tears after reading this, poor Pudding! How devastating and traumatizing for all of you especially your mom. Praying for perfect peace at this time. Ughhh We have just had reportings of coyote sightings here in our area and it's so scary, I am afraid to even leave my large Alaskan Malamute outside. Praying for your poor mother! I just can't imagine.

I hope to give you a little laugh if possible, that's what God's people need when going through trials, my brother's home video has gone viral. You may have seen it he's belly flopping on an air mattress and unexpectedly my niece launches high into the air clearing the bed post with no injuries. Reporters and TV shows have interviewed them and are continuously contacting them about the video. My daughters are in it too.

I did an article for the Detroit Examiner today regarding the craze and it was cover news and currently is circulating as cover news. please feel free to share with whoever you desire. This video has caused many to laugh! I have been fighting depression lately this video remedied that. God is so good how he does things. Don't be alarmed, my sweet niece was not harmed in this video it was a shock, but it turned out being pretty hilarious after knowing she wasn't hurt! Here is the link if you are up to checking it out, if not I totally understand! Again here's the link for my recent article God bless you Mama Hen!

  9. Oh, Mama Hen. What a tragic way to lose your little Pudding. We live in coyote country and several neighbors have lost their dogs to coyotes. Our cats are indoor-only. Thinking of you and your sweet little Pudding. You gave him a good good 13 years!

  14. Small dogs have to deal with a lot or predators out there. I would love to have a fence - more to keep stuff like that out than keeping anyone in!

  16. Oh no, what a horrible story. I'm so sorry that you weren't there for him at the end, I know you would have wanted to be. We have serious problems with coyotes in our area too, our friends went through the exact same thing with their dog in their backyard recently. Ugh, your poor mom too, she must feel awful and to be recovering from a bite. She is so brave to ward them off and grab your baby. I'm sending you hugs and love, to your mom too! XO

  17. This is horrific. I'm so sorry that he had to suffer like that and that your family lost a member. Down here, we have this issue with alligators and big cranes that swoop down and lift up small dogs. Makes you appreciate what you have everyday because life/death is unpredictable. So sorry...
