Spreading Kindness

This morning while I was getting my coffee at our local bakery, there was a little elderly gentleman behind me in line holding onto his bagels so sweetly. When it came time for me to pay I said with a huge smile on my face "I would like to pay for the nice gentleman as well please." In a second the girl at the register put on a big smile and the man also had a smile and twinkle in his eyes. He said, "You do not have to pay for my bagels. Why are you?" I replied without hesitation, "Because it is a nice thing to do. Enjoy them and later on you can pass on some kindness to someone else." He smiled and gave me a big thank you. Spreading a kind gesture is so easy and can have such a lasting effect on all who is involved. I was happy as I left and the little old man was smiling as he entered his car. Spread the love! You never know who you will effect in a positive way and just how important it may be at that moment for them to receive an act of kindness.

  2. Awww.. that was such a sweet thing to do! Just recently you were blogging about how a nice sweet lady paid for your coffee (or something) and now you passed on the kind act! Good for you! :)

  3. You are so right. "You never know who you will effect in a positive way and just how important it may be at that moment for them to receive an act of kindness." Kindness has a ripple effect and it also brings joy to the giver :)

Where I'm from we have a radion station 89.7 WMHK that has on Friday's "Drive Thru Friday's" where you go through, pay for the car behind's your order, pass along an anonymous letter to the cashier & ask them to pass it along. It's quite a wonderful feeling to do that, I did it & without the woman behind me ever knowing who I was. I felt so great!

  6. MH, I love this! You're right, we never know when or how a simple kindness can lift someone up - and we feel great in the giving! I love how you responded to the gentleman holding his bagels "so sweetly". There's something about what you saw there that I'm curious to know, what did "so sweetly" look like?

  10. Great post! I notice that even looking directly into the eyes of an elderly 'door keeper' at Walmart and smiling and saying 'Hello,' can bring a little joy into a person's life. How often we overlook people.

  16. I love this! I try to do little things like this as well. Usually returning their cart for them or letting them keep their quarter for cart return at certain stores. Thanks for sharing your kindness and helping make the world a better place!!! Have a good day! : )
