What is Happiness?

"Happiness is a gift. We can obtain a happy spirit once we realize what is truly important." ~Mama Hen

What is happiness? Is it something we create or simply something that comes to us if we are lucky? We spend our days seeking true happiness. However, how many of us really feel content? Does a new car, piece of jewelry, house, vacation, accomplishment, new job, etc. fulfill our souls? Or is it love? Being loved by someone who truly cares and being able to give love back that keeps that smile upon our face and within our hearts. Our lives fly by in a flash! Will we be able to say that we were completely filled up in the end? Or will we have an emptiness- a void - that missed something so imperative while on this journey? Little Chick was my greatest dream and I feel full of joy and abundant love having had this dream come true. However, with my daughter comes endless worry and prayers that she may have the happiest life. This at times can take away from my feeling complete happiness, because I become so consumed with worry and wanting the best, as well as protecting her. I try my hardest to create a childhood for her that she will look back on with the fondest of memories. Filling each moment with love, giggles, and plenty of fun adventures. I believe that it takes a concerted effort to make sure that our lives stay filled to the brim with happiness. We often can lose sight of what truly will give us that feeling. Material pleasures may for a short while, but it is our positive and loving relationships that will create a lasting sensation of happiness that will stay with us for all of time.

Little Chick and I had fun today at the beach where I went with my mom when I was a little girl.

  5. Being content, I struggle with it a lot. Over the past two weeks I've been working on calming my busy mind and it forces me to take in the wonder of my life. Love the pics of you guys.

  6. Those are great photos! I believe that happiness is a choice. Our circumstances aren't always wonderful, but we can choose to be happy in them or in spite of them, focusing on what God has given us, being secure in His love, and passing that love on to others.

  7. Beautiful post. I do believe happiness is about letting go...of things, of anger, of expectations, and just living and loving in the moment we have right now. Thanks for the reminder:)

  8. This is a great message! I know so many people who have great spouses, children, family, and an income but seem to find things in their lives to be unhappy about... it is so sad to spend most of your life feeling that way. This is such a great reminder, especially on those hectic days, to remember what is important and to make happy moments.

  9. The smile on Little Chick's face says it all - she looks so happy and like she's having so much fun! As my girls spend more and more time away from me I realize all I can do is be a good role model, support them, and teach them to make good choices. They're their own individuals with their own life plans.

  12. I always find that going to the beach or on a long nature walk helps me put things into perspective. Yes, sometimes I do struggle with being content. I find myself in the work trap of wanting to save money and have more...But, then I realize that my time with Little Lewie is fleeting, and that is number one. Oh, Mama Hen I worry about Lewie like you worry about Little Chick. There are days that I worry about his safety or how he is treated by others and I so want to be there always to protect him. (I guess this worry comes with being a parent.) This is such a great post Mama Hen. We do need to fill each moment with "love, giggles, and fun adventures."

  14. So true! Looking for happiness in material things never works. These photos are splendid! I think you're doing a great job giving LC the best possible childhood she could wish for.
Thanks for your comment the other day. Cam still ASKS to do her reading lesson at night, and when she does, I do it with her. But, I'm not pushing it anymore. I'm going to let her set the pace and I'm going to soak up her carefree pre-school days as long as I can ;)
