Cherished Moments Monday

"There is no fonder memory then that of an average day simply being spent with a loving family."
~Mama Hen
For Cherished Moments Monday I want to share a picture I came across the other day. This is my sweet Dad, Opi (grandfather), Mom and Omi (grandmother) in the photo above sitting around our pool in 1992. Just looking at this triggers a host of emotions! We used to have so many family dinners at that table (which I have now). I would spend the entire summer swimming in the pool, which my Dad appreciated, because no one else really went in as much as I did. I was like a little fish that would turn blue before you could get me out of there. I remember my Dad singing and dancing as he flipped the hamburgers on the grill and my Mom and I would bring all the plates and fixings out from the kitchen that was upstairs and seemed so far away in the eyes of a teenager. Ha! It was a happy time for my entire family! I really cherish those memories and miss those days!
What Cherished memory do you miss?

  1. That is a great memory! I was the same way about being in the pool until I was blue and had to be dragged out LOL. My grandmother used to have huge family parties at her house and all the cousins would swim and play with one another the whole day! They were fun times. When she moved out of that house into a smaller one the parties stopped, and so did seeing most of the family, so I miss those days! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! We had fun camping, it was really cold though and that wasn't expected, we made do and had fun though.

  2. It's so much fun to bring out old photos of our childhood. What a wonderful memory--I especially like the fact that your dad enjoyed singing and dancing while flipping burgers on the grill. Too cute!

  3. What a sweet memory as a teenager! It's wonderful to read these stories about your family! I love that you remember such beautiful details as your dad singing and dancing while flipping burgers, you and your mom bringing plates out from "far away", and yourself swimming until you were blue!

  7. Love that you were a fish growing up too :) Cute picture filled with MANY memories!! Pictures bring back all of the special memories, don't they? Well mine is easy, I miss walking into my grandmother's house, it always smelled of garlic(we are sicilian) and she was ALWAYS cooking something. We'd meet her in the kitchen, throw on an apron and get to cooking whatever it was she was making, then we'd all sit down, say Grace and "mangia"(means, eat in Italian), it is something I hold SO dear and wish I could go back and cherish those moments even MORE than I do now :)

  8. My favorite childhood memories are like Hannah's. We would all gather at my grandparent's house every Sunday - all the cousins, aunts and uncles, and whoever else got thrown in the mix.

We were a close family, but now that all the cousins have grown and most have had families of their own we rarely see each other. We have a family reunion once a year, and I try to visit whenever one of the cousins see my grandmother who lives an hour away from my place.

It's sad that my kids didn't have the same experience. I'm the oldest grandchild in the family, and all the others waited longer than I did to have kids, so there's 5 years between my youngest and the next in line!

Now I feel OLD and Nostalgic. Not a good combination!!!

  10. We didn't have the weather for outdoor pools, but I used to swim a lot in the local swimming baths ... I really should take it up again!

  19. Wonderful picture. I miss the late summer evenings when all the chores were done on the farm (cows milked, hay baled) and the family would all pile into the car and go to the lake - just as the mosquitoes were getting thick in the air. But we had a blast! :-)

  20. I really miss being so close to family. Having family around for all holidays, birthdays, and events worthy of celebrating. I miss Midwestern summers, camping with my dad, and just being "home." Ahhh. I could cry now. I think I'm a little homesick.
