“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."
What a wonderful day Little Chick and I had today! We spent the morning at the beach. I was so proud of her for getting into the water and trying to swim. She has always loved the water, but has been rather apprehensive about actually sitting down or going on her belly. Today she wanted to swim with such determination and swim was what she did! She kept kicking her feet, moving her arms and inching back a little deeper. I would say, "That is far enough." And her response was, "I am swimming mommy! I need more water." There was no stopping her! She wanted to swim like the big kids. My Dad was very determined. He set goals and did what it took to accomplish them. He had this quote in a frame above his desk in his office. I learned by watching him and his continuous inspiration and positive praise encouraged me to do the best that I can. I have never pushed Little Chick to do anything, but she must have watched my own determination with things and has taken on challenges with such gusto! I guess in this world today it is an important trait to have. It is so nice to know that she takes after her Grandaddy!
