Kiss the Tears Away

"My heart is happy, my mind is free.
I had a father who talked with me."

My Dad was always the one to make "everything" better in my life. He was the one who kissed the tears away. When my father passed away I turned to my love of music and poetry to help me through the pain. I also found myself driving to the reservoir, the beach and anywhere I could feel at one with nature. Who or what helps you to feel better?
It is amazing how we can rely so much on someone or something to help us get through the icky parts of life. We realize what we had when we no longer have it. For me, I was fortunate to have such a profound passion for the Arts and nature. It truly helped soothe some of the angst I was going through (and still do at times) .

I wonder if this inherent love for music and nature and instinctive relying on it can be taught to Little Chick? I will always be there to kiss her tears away, but I want her to have these strong helpful friends when she is in need of a "renewal" of spirit and hope.

  1. I learned the most not by what my parents said, but what they did. She will see the love of nature and arts in you and how it helps guide you - and hopefully - someday it will have the same effect on her. Or perhaps she will find another passion, perhaps completely different that will help to guide her through the days when she needs it most. :)

  3. I imagine she will associate you with nature and music and she will find comfort in those things when you are no longer around to comfort her. This was a beautiful post. I'm your #200!

  4. The beach always soothes my soul. It was always a place I would run off too to find healing or comfort. I hope my kids find their 'comfort' place as they grow up. Lovely post ;D

  6. Oh, what a beautiful post. I think I learned more from what my parents did rather than what they said (both the good and the bad). It's really beautiful that you had such a great relationship with your dad, and I'm sure you'll pass along your loves to Little Chick :)

  7. What a beautiful post. What you are describing is the reason why I found photography. It's an outlet and a comfort. It's funny, my daughther has been carrying around her toy camera so maybe she will follow in my footsteps!

  8. I'm sure exposing her to it early in her life and her being able to see your love for it will help!

  11. Great post MamaHen. If Lil Chick sees that you love them then more than likely she will do. Time alone is a great respite for me, I can sort through all the noise of the problem more easily. If I really need a new insight I call a friend that lives 1,500 miles away. She always puts things in a unique perspective.
