Midnight Snack

"Turn everything you can into a cherished moment."
The past week Little Chick has been waking up a couple of nights. She used to cry for me when she would wake up, but I told her that I always know when she is up because of the monitor and that all she had to do is call me. So now when she wakes up I can hear her call in a sing song voice, "Mommmmmyyyyy! Where are yoooouu?" I always respond singing, "I'mmm commming!" I love walking in to get her and seeing how cute she looks with her sleepy eyes holding out her arms saying, "Mommy, pick me up." I scoop her up and bring her down for a "midnight snack". Because she does not wake up that often, I think it is something rather soothing and fun to do. It is another future cherished memory for her, as well as for me. We always call my mom and Little Chick tells her about her and Pooh having a snack at night. Of course Pooh Bear is always included (and an extra cup of milk for him too).

  8. This is such a great idea! I'm going to have to remember your way of thinking when Georgia wakes up in the night. She doesn't do it often, but I'm so tired that my first instinct is dread. But a midnight snack would make it feel like fun, not a chore, to get up with her.

  10. Such a great idea. Whatever wakes her up, whether it be a bad dream or anything else, I'm thinking the midnight snack with Mommy makes it all better again. :) Cute pics!

  11. What a sweet memory this will be for her when she is older. My dad used to have Midnight Picnics with us. He'd lay a blanket on the floor, turn on a soft blue light, and serve us crackers and milk. I treasure that memory!

  12. Wow. You are a good mom. My kids get up in the middle of the night and unless they are in danger of dying, running a fever, or had a terrible nightmare, they are on their own!

  14. Wow, fun late nights with Pooh and a glass of milk! When my kids wake up, they squeeze themselves in between me and daddy, and I wake up with a foot digging into my rib cage and a hand over my face.:-/

I'm so sure Little Chick is going to look back at all of these posts when she's older and cherish them forever!

  16. Adorable. That is great that you look at it this way. I should try your perspective. I just get annoyed that they are awake when we should be sleeping and immediately try everything to get them to go back to bed! lol! She is too cute!

  17. My little sister used to walk around with the pooh bear all the time too.

These pictures actually made me nostalgic, so I'm just going to share my fave pooh bear memory. Hope you don't mind :-).
I was vacationing with my family in Disney world for a week about ten years ago. It was Saturday and since my parents are Sabbath observers we spent the day relaxing by the pool because we couldn't go on any rides. We took a walk around the Disney villa and walked into some air conditioned stores around the area to look around. The stores were completely filled to capacity with toys and dolls and it was just torture bringing in a four year old without being able to buy her anything. My sister cried and screamed for this one particular pooh doll and could not fathom why my parents would bring her to toy heaven with no intentions of buying her anything. It as the saddest thing ever. My parents felt so bad, but were not carrying any money on them and for religious reasons could not buy anything regardless. A four year old can't understanding these tings and we all felt cruel and evil for subjecting her to that.

Later that night when my parents went out, they went back to the store and purchased the pooh bear and snuck it into my sisters bed while she was sleeping.

When my sister woke up in the morning and saw Pooh sleeping right next to her, she gasped and whispered "Magic!!"

It was one of my most precious moments witnessing.

The pictures of little chick just brought back those memories, so I couldn't help but share.

I apologize for the novel left here.

  30. Oh I love this! She really will remember these nights! Some of the things I remember the most as great memories with my parents were the times they did things out of the ordinary that you wouldn't think a parent would normally be okay with.

One night my dad took me to see 2 movies in a row with him. We even had to go to 2 different theaters to be able to see the ones we wanted to see. It was like a daddy/daughter date night.

Another night, I remember crying about a boyfriend who had broken up with me sometime in high school & it was a school night & my mom - rather than act like I was just silly to be upset - put me in the car with her & we drove to Wal-Mart about 11:30pm to get ice cream. She said sometimes that just fixes things. And it did.

  31. Midnight snacks are the best! I kind of started that "eating around the clock" thing when I was pregnant, and if I'm up really late (as I often am) I'll usually still help myself to a bowl of cold cereal. Sometimes my "big kids" join me, too. It's fun to visit for just a bit while the house is all quiet and cozy.
I won't be staying up til midnight tonight because I have my board exam tomorrow. Please say a prayer for me! Thanks, -EW

  32. Is there an award for best mom? If so, I would nominate you! You are awesome. What a special mommy for such a special little girl. I won't tell you how I handle midnight wakers - lol! (It's not a midnight snack). :-)
