This is the Time to Remember

"Savor the moments.
They are here now to enjoy so tomorrow you can sit back and smile in remembering."
~Mama Hen
This may sound silly, but whenever I am feeling really happy with a moment or simply enjoying hearing Little Chick's daily giggling and watching her skip and climb, I begin singing Billy Joel's song, This is the Time to Remember. I hear it playing in my head as I try to savor the time we are having. It usually happens when we are doing something so common in our day, like snuggling and reading a book together or dancing in the kitchen while I am making a meal or cleaning. I love my time with Little Chick and I know that these years will fly by. They already are. But I make sure to remember that:

"This is the time to remember, cause it will not last forever.

These are the days to hold on to, cause we won't although we'll want to."

  1. So, so true. It's overwhelming sometimes, to consciously think "I want to remember this moment always" and savor it, knowing it's fleeting. It's great to have a song to help you remember...Years from now you can play it, and have the memories come flooding back!

  2. So true indeed! I always try to sit down right after moments like that and write them down as detailed as possible: the event, the feelings I experienced, etc., in order to 'bottle' that moment as much as possible.

  4. If I am experiencing a moment, I will hold up my hands as if I have an imaginary camera and I make this clicking noise, as if I took the picture. My friends get the biggest kick out of it - it only happens when something really amazing happens. Ahh.. I love those moments.

  7. Beautiful picture and lovely post.

Reminds me to enjoy my little girl's innocence and all the sweet moments while I can. I am already feeling she is growing up too fast. It now feels even more right to have a blog, so that I can capture all the precious thoughts & memories.

  10. As well as your memories, I'm sure it will help to look back on the great times you've blogged about - and Little Chick will be able to share those memories when she's older. Fantastic :)

  12. It's definitely true - these are the moments to remember! I do this too, only not to Billy Joel. My personal song in my head is Green Day's "Time of Your Life". I always think of the line, "So take the photographs and still-frames in your mind. Hang them on a shelf in good health and good times." Have a great weekend!

  17. What a beautiful post (and beautiful picture). You are so right... the days and years are flying by! I do think it's those special moments like you referred to in your blog are the ones that our children will remember and will give them the feeling of love from their parents that will last forever.

  18. Mama Hen, you're such a sweet gal. You truly do cherish the little things, which by the way are the most important things. Our babies grow up fast and we should all cherish and remember the little things that truly matter (=

By the way, The Nestwork is such a fantastic idea. Thanks again for including me (=

  24. So true! I try my best to savor the moments because I know it won't be like this for long, time flies by so fast. Have you heard the Darius Rucker song "It won't be like this for long"? That is the song that comes to my mind during those moments.

  25. Your wise to know to enjoy on to these times but I will tell you my oldest child just turned 30 yesterday and I continue to have those types of moments where I savor the time I spend with her. Wonderful times keep occurring no matter how old your child becomes.
